Visit a Mill that has been run by the same family for generations. Take a step back in time; view the water turn the wheel and observe the workings come to life again.
Finnertys Mills is a peaceful rural location, situated 10 kms from Loughrea, Co. Galway, Ireland. We are 35 kms from Galway City. There is a Corn Mill, Woolen/Tuck Mill, walkway and yard on the farm. All buildings date back to the early 19th century.
These buildings are an important part of our heritage and one gets a real sense of history at Finnertys Mills. The Corn Mill is also a recorded monument. Learn about a bygone age - the workings of stone-ground milling and water power. See the various artefacts on display in the museum.
This monument is not an OPW site. The restoration has been largely financed privately under the guidance of Industrial Archaeologist, Dr. Fred Hammond and Conservation Architect, Ger McManus. None of this would have been possible without the work of Marko and Marika Leen, our restoration specialists.
